What Cha Reading? January edition...

What's Jack up to? Jack us up to his old tricks. He got into the DS's gym bag yesterday and had his way with a granola bar leaving only the wrapping on the couch as evidence.

So What Cha Reading? We are having the hardest time with a book club selection for our mom's night out/ book/ drinks group. We did choose The Lucuna by Barbara Kingsolver but it didn't stick so then a few choices were handed out as to another pic, one being Elizabeth Gilbert's newest Committed which I still want to read since I loved Eat, Pray, Love. Now I know this may not live up to the original but still I'm going in. It also didn't stick with the all members so I'm afriad the Book/drinking/mom's night out group might lose the book part because I am not ready to lose the other parts.

Mom needs a night out!

Either way, right now I'm reading Countess of Scandal by Laurel McKee. I just got a change to get into it during the DD's dance class but so far it's a win!

Here is the blurb:

Eliza Blacknall and Will Denton were childhood sweethearts, growing up on neighboring estates in beautiful County Kildare. But adulthood finds them on opposite sides of the monumental and violent struggle of 1798, as Eliza supports the United Irish in their quest for independence, and Will is a major in the British Army, sworn to uphold the Crown. The passion for each other burns hotter than ever—but can it survive as their world crumbles around them?

Check out Laurel's site here.

So what are you reading?

Best,
Kwana

"The Mill on the Floss" by George Eliot. It's an old one that should have been read in college, but passed me by. Excellent character reading.

I did not enjoy Eat Pray Love so I would not read another of her books. Just finished The Help ( wonderful). Nothing on deck at the moment, just dipping into David Sedaris short stories (Naked).

One thing I haven't been able to get back into is reading books. I have one of Anne Lamott's books checked out from the library with a bookmark in the introduction....I just couldn't get any further. I've been soaking up magazines. The pictures, the perfume samples, the quick articles. It's working for me right now.

I loved reading The Help last year. Has your book club considered that one?

I'm reading an older book by Laurie Notaro, "We Thought You Would Be Prettier"
If you haven't read any of her books, you should, she's hilarious!

Hey, looks like an excellent book! LOL!!

I'm reading "Titian: The Last Days," a great look at 16th century Venice and the works of Titian (not just the last ones!). I usually love Kingsolver, and def love Kahlo, but found "The Lacuna" slow going as well. And since I did not like "Eat Pray Love", I probably won't be tackling "Committed". but I'm not sure what to read next.

I've been reading a bunch of Harlequin Medicals on my Kindle. LOL! All they do is save lives and get it on.

I'm reading Allison Winn's Scotch's "Time of My Life." She's a good writer, and I like how she's funny yet hits on issues that most women experience.

Have you read The Help by Kathryn Stockett? So good! My mother is reading it now and it is definitely got us talking!

I'm reading a book I got for Xmas - a collection of essays about the figure of the sylph in romantic ballet, by various dance scholars.
