Double Shot

Yesterday came with a double shot of sadness with the loss of two of my childhood icons.

First came Farrah with her bright and beautiful smile gone forever.

Then out of left field the shocking news of the death of Michael Jackson. My very first childhood crush.

The lesson here: Love and appreciate all that you love while you have them.

Best,
Kwana

So true. Celebrity status has nothing to do with when it's your time. For a long time, Michael tried to find the fountain of youth. Unfortunately, he never did. But, he graced the world with his talents and for that, I'm grateful.

I remember thinking that I was part of Charlie's Angels or that my family could be singers like the Jackson family. So much influence at a young age and gone at such a young age. I am sad for the loss of my childhood tv buddies. They gave so much joy to many.

I used to play Charlie's Angels with my friends when we were little. So sad! MJ is a huge shock, way to young to be gone. His music brings back she memories of my younger days.

Farrah was expected, but MJ was so out of the blue. They paid a tribute to him last night on "So you think you can dance" (best reality show ever). Very sad.

Yes, it was out of left field, wasn't it? I was watching a rerun of the Wayan Brothers - to take my mind off of Farrah - and they made a joke, with Michael Jackson as the punchline. I laughed (it was funny, in a Wayans brothers sort of way) but I also felt sad for MJ, and found myself reflecting on his life. Not five minutes later, my son said to me, "I just heard that Michael Jackson died today." Yep. Right out of left field.

You know, lots of great non-celebrities die every day. I just can't get worked up about two people I didn't know.

My friend, a music critic, said this: "The little boy with the big smile who sang "I Want You Back" with his brothers was not the deformed freak who died today. Hold him responsible for his adult behavior, sure, but respect the innate genius he was."

I like that.

So, so true...
Poor Michael is probably better off where he is...
I never knew he'd suffered so much (at the hands of "others") all his life - of course, I guess, the mutilating plastic surgery and drugs must have been his only way of escape...so sad!
I'll always love his music - truly beautiful ^_^
