Keep it Cool Boy

Well, it was bound to happen. The DS (Dear Son) has gone all fashion on me. Now this is normally the DD's aka "The Diva's" job, but for the past two weeks it was the DS that has been bugging me to take him to the mall and for a pea coat of all things. This is the same kid that I can't get to put on a light jacket in 15 degree weather. Color me confused, but not for long, adolescence is kicking in and I guess the whole 'clothes make the man thing' or at least gets you noticed is starting to become apparent with his set. Eek. Why me? I'm so not mature enough for this job.
Well, being this late in the season it was no easy task finding a pea coat. Sell outs everywhere.

Finally, late Saturday night success! In the store he slips the coat on, goes to the full length mirror and smiles suddenly giving me a glimpse of the young man that I'll have to let go of very soon.

"So what the big deal with this coat?", I ask. "Why do you have to have it now?"

He looks at me like I surely don't have a brain in my head and says, "Mom I can't go around looking like a bum with Barack Obama being president now can I?"

I just smile. "No sweetie, surely, you can't. Now do you have a belt on, care to pull those jeans up a bit more?"
Yep, Change has come...

Best,
Kwana

P.S. I never posted a pic, but I did finally finish knitting the DS's after Christmas hat right before his birthday. Here it is:

What a classic, stylish choice! YAY for DS!

The President Obama comment alone deserves coordinating Coach gloves, right mom?

Hey! Just trying to help him out!

Cute hat! I wish I could knit like that. Not that I'd get to wear such a cool hat in Florida very often...

Oh I love pea coats! I have a wool military style coat but have wanted a pea coat for eons. Maybe DS and Omama will be my inspiration, haha. Great hat! A woman of many talents.

Oh what a sweet story. I have always loved the classic pea coat and perhaps that The Sartorialist has posted it with brass buttons makes me want one now too.
I like that our boys are beginning to see the light and follow in the fashionable footsteps of the President or perhaps their fashionable parents.
Love the hat!

I want a knit cap! Won't you send me one for my small head? **Jax bats her eyelashes**

Your comments are cracking me up.

Tamstyles hold on to your boy while you can.

PBW don't even try it. The only Coach gloves coming this way are to me! Don't get me in trouble. The DD would be all over them. lol.

Kristen, with your talent you can surely knit like that and probably better. I learned from books and a video.

As a matter of fact you all can learn. It's so easy. (Cute little Jax batting her lashes.) LOL. One of my favorite books is Knitting Rules by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee and knittinghelp.com has how to videos. Go for it!

Yes, PVE I saw the one posted on The Satorialist. Gorg! It's amazing watching our boys grow into young men. Scary.

I loved your line about putting the belt on and pulling up the jeans! How strange is this fashion of jeans around their thighs and boxer tops paraded for all to see. Great post, you made me smile, xv.

See what being a well dressed man does for the teens of his nation? Now if they all looked as sweet as Barack, hmmm. LOL You guys have got the best looking leader, we're stuck with a guy who looks like Radar from Mash.

Natalie you are so funny. Girls and women are crushing all over this country. I'm sure it did not hurt at the polls.

So good to have a little slow groove in the White House! Here's hoping a little bit rubs off on my DS!

Love the pea coat...he is going to look so handsome in that. And the hat is going to make the look.

Watch out, Mama...you have a handsome young man on your hands! You must have smiled so big.
