I'm no soccer mom

What's Jack up to? I've decided Jack has way too many stuffed toys. Every time I turn around he's underfoot with another toy for me to play fetch. Who has who trained here?

I'm trying to come to terms with my soccer mom, well baseball mom, status. My DS is on a travel baseball team this summer that has me constantly up and down the road. Ugh! Now it may not win me any prizes, but I really no soccer mom. Most times when I'm at the field my nose is usually buried in a romance book or I've got my lap top out and I'm hiding in my car. I just don't quite fit in with the other Ubermoms that know all the kid's names and the stats and have extra waters, Gatorade and ice packs at the ready. I never quite have it that together. Sue me.

Oh well. We all have our gifts I guess. To that end on the way to a game the other day I was feeling very 80's and played this for the DS over and over while I sang at the top of my lungs. He laughed and tied to out sing me.

I think for today's game we may rock this (thanks Megan):

I may not be a baseball mom but I know good music. That should get me some points. Right?

Best,
Kwana

I'm sure you're an awesome soccer/baseball mom. Just because you're not a stepford wife doesn't mean you don't rock. Hey, you're there, aren't you? That counts.

It sounds like your kid doesn't mind if you're a different kind of mom, so why should you? Be who you are! Those other moms are all secretly jealous of your romance novels, you know they are.

Thanks Kristen and Louisa it's tough being a different type of mom sometimes. And you're right. I'm there! They probably are jealous of my novels. Who wouldn't be?

Okay, I don't have kids, so I can't offer up comment there, but I am a fellow '80s chick! Seriously, I started chair dancing and singing to Gigolo then minute it started playing. Haven't heard that in years! OMG, the memories it brought back. LOL! Good thing I'm the only one here in my office wing right now, or I would have attracted some very strange glances. Or maybe not...people here know me pretty well by now. Ha! Thanks for the blasts from the past! :-)

Thanks Mommy the Robot. Yep that's what you have to look forward to. It's terrible when a mom asks me who made a hit or a play. I just shrug and smile. I swear they all look alike to me in their uniforms. It doesn't matter that they are all from different ethnic backgrounds and have different numbers on their backs. I can barely pick out my own kid!

Hi Single City Chick. So happy to make you dance in the office today! I just love my 80's music. I'll have to add more from time to time.

Buffalo Stance is still a huge thing between me and my friends from elementary school! "We always hang in a buffalo stance" is one of our big inside jokes. Oh man! Great to play that one this morning.

NO.YOU.DI-INT!

Two of the BEST SONGS EVAH!! And Neneh Cherry's Buffalo Stance is just as fierce today as it was back then.

Hey, you might not know baseball stats, but darling, you know your music.

XOXOXO

Thanks Melissa and David. I'm feeling like a much better mom now. I DO have my good qualities. I'm giving these kids a very valuable education in music and fashion that will take them through life.

Don't feel bad for not being an "Uber Soccer Mom!" Like you said, everyone is different and has his/her own gifts. I know for a fact that when I become a parent I will not be excited to participate in games, etc. because I HATE all sports.

I used to love Buffalo Stance...I had no idea of what she was talking about and I actually still don't know! LOL

The simple fact you can have a sing-off of 80s music (Come On Eileen, no less) with your TEENAGE son...says you're doing something right, dearie.

ah those songs brings back such good memories.

I am no soccer mom either. You do what you do best not what you think you should be doing.

LOVED the 80's and still do. Please do post more songs!

Thanks for the thumbs up BG.

Thanks for the sweet words N. You're so kind.

I'm glad to bring those memories back S. I'll post more songs soon.

I am a soccer mom...but I still don't remember to pack extra drinks and snacks...I suck at this soccer mom thing. Hell half the time I forget when the next game or practice is and only know when I see the kids in their gear.

Just so you know, I"ll be sing C'mon Eileen all day now. Thanks. A lot.

sorry no access to internet in the country in the Alsace region of France. Great to have a break but did feel cut off.
French love "Prince" here and I think of you! Soccer is called "Football" here and there is no baseball. A trip to France in your future!

I wish our kids had games together, because I'd love to hang with you at a game.

Baseball is one thing, but imagine being a swimming mom. All the kids are in goggles, swim caps and the same suit. Oh yeah, and they're all wet. Try telling them apart. You cannot imagine how many times I've videoed a kid in a swim race to realize at the end it's not my kid. And worse, she won, and I missed it. Now that's some quality-ass parenting!

Oh Ellen I'm feeling for you. That is so sad and funny at the same time. A total sitcom moment.
